Zelly came to us in 2011 from Denise Waiting of Toshay Cardigans, and she quickly made her mark in the show ring. She earned her Championship with limited showing, moving with the same effortless, ground-covering stride she still shows off today as she struts around the yard at 14 and a half years old.
Now happily retired, Zelly reigns as the matriarch of the house – confident, and still just as independent as ever. Her breeding career was as successful as her show one; her first litter produced two AKC Champions and a CD titleholder, and her 2019 litter here at Baledwr continues her legacy. From that litter, we retained one puppy (Fred) in co-ownership, while several of her offspring have gone on to thrive in performance homes, carrying on her drive and intelligence.
True to her adventurous spirit, Zelly’s life has never been short on excitement. She once made it three miles across a six-lane highway after a fence was pulled down, and another time managed an eight-day adventure that ended with her safely recovered ten miles from home – having gained weight in the process! Clearly, she’s a resourceful girl with a strong will to thrive.
Even now, Zelly’s favorite pastime remains the same: sneaking snacks whenever she thinks no one’s looking, earning her the well-deserved nickname “Sneakthief.” She may be retired, but her spark – and her appetite – are as lively as ever. And at her age, we admit she gets away with it more often than not. After all, she’s earned every extra treat that comes her way.
